SHED stands for building Equality

The power of money is enticing. One under the influence of it often starts feeling that all things of the world can be bought with its power. Believers of this ideology are however brought to ground when they realize that certain talents like ability to sing, paint and dance etc are priceless gifts bestowed by nature to only a few and being rich is surely not a criterion to possess these gifts. While they cannot be purchased but they can certainly be nurtured to add value to human life on this earth.

On 3rd July 2008, at the annual function of Mumbai based non-profit SHED titled ‘Balljalosh’, 150 slum children showcased these priceless gifts before a gathering of 1000 people. The guests were spellbound by the extraordinary performances of children. Speaking on the occasion, the guest of honour, Ms Priya Dutt, Member of Parliament, from North-West Mumbai constituency remarked, “I am honoured to be a part of such a wonderful function. I offer heartiest congratulations to SHED for dispelling darkness from the lives of these children belonging to economically weaker section of society. SHED can look forward to my support for such endeavours in future too.”

‘Balljalosh’ was a very special function for both the privileged and underprivileged. While it sensitized privileged masses and brought them closer to underprivileged children, it also gave opportunity of a life time to underprivileged children to showcase their talent before an august gathering. Such programmes are beneficial for the organization to mobilize funds.

The support of Smile Foundation to SHED under its ‘Action for Children’ programme is noteworthy in more than one aspect.
