KidsXL
reaches Hyderabad

On 7th
Aug’09, Geetanjali Deboshray, a premiere school of Secunderabad
was networked with ‘Mahita’ - a Hyderabad based non-profit
providing non-formal education to poor and needy children under
Kids XL programme of Smile Foundation. The first session of KidsXL
at Geetanjali Deboshray School was inaugurated formally by Mr Madhusudan
– State Chief Monitoring Officer, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan of
Andhra Pradesh. After the inaugural address by chief guest, the
children of Geetanjali Deboshray School performed a song and an
entertaining skit to welcome the association of Mahita NGO. The
children of Mahita reciprocated the same sentiments by presenting
a Dance.
The inaugural
session culminated with Directors of Geetanjali Deboshray School
and Mahita commiting to bridge the gap in the society by encouraging
the underprivileged children and evolving an opportunity for them
to grow.
A
special day for the street children

Holy
Mother English School, an upcoming school for privileged children
at Malad in Mumbai opened its doors for orphans and street children
on 10th Sep’09.
The day turned into a very special day for children of ‘Social
Development Centre’ as they got an opportunity of a life time
to participate in the function of a privileged school as students.
The activities began with a round of self introduction; children
were then asked to choose a partner from the other school. ‘Passing
the ball’ game proved an interesting game to break inhibitions
and in bringing the children from different sections of society
closer. Children then made special ‘Friendship cards’
and exchanged them with their buddies. The best cards were awarded
medals. Session ended with distribution of mouth watering snacks
and sweets to all children.

Christmas
becomes special even for the less-fortunate

South
City International- a premiere school of Kolkatta opened its doors
for the underprivileged children of Sankha Suvra Welfare Society
on 22nd Dec’09 to kick start the KidsXL programme in its premises.
It turned out to be a momentous occasion for both underprivileged
and privileged children when they celebrated Christmas together
without the barriers of social divide. The bonhomie exhibited by
children from diverse backgrounds was worth emulating for elders
who have built unnecessary walls of caste, creed and religion around
them; distancing self from fellow human beings.
Children sang, danced, recited and ate together, making most of
the time available to them. A good initiative indeed to build harmony
and tolerance in present times of strife and turmoil!
