An evening with a difference

‘ An evening with a difference’ – This is how Mr Pankaj Udhas, a leading Ghazal singer from India preferred to call the event organized by Bachpan Bachao Andolan to raise funds for a project to rescue and rehabilitate 500 children working as child labour in various industries of Mumbai. The evening indeed was different and special - a perfect blend of entertainment, sensitization of privileged masses culminating eventually into charity for the cause of marginalized children.

The event, ‘Ek Shaam Bachpan Ke Naam’ – a musical concert by Mr Pankaj Udhas was organized on 6th Sep’08 at Birla auditorium in Jaipur. Important members of state judiciary of Rajasthan including the chief justice of Jaipur High Court, Col. Bhawani Singh, the scion of erstwhile princely state of Jaipur, leading businessmen of Jaipur city were among the eminent guests present on the occasion. Around 2000 people belonging to the privileged section of society attended the event.

Pre-event promotional activities ensured adequate sensitization of masses about the issue of child labour and need to safeguard the interests of such children. Adequate publicity was provided to the event in the form of series of advertisements carried regularly on the last page of Dainik Bhaskar – a leading local daily for a period of 1 week before the event. Hoardings with glow lights describing the event were put up at 25 different locations of Jaipur city four days prior to the event. Representatives of Bachpan Bachao Andolan personally invited eminent people of the city for the event utilizing the opportunity to sensitize these privileged members of the society about child related issues like child labour, child abuse, child trafficking etc. The event was a big success and achieved twin objectives of sensitization of privileged masses and raising of funds through them.
